TOP FIVE TUESDAY ♡ YA PRINCES

Hello friends and happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a good day today. So, if you haven’t noticed yet, I may or may not have a thing for princes. Love, love, love ’em. And I’ve been thinking a lot about princes and princesses lately partially due to the new Wreck It Ralph 2 trailer (you know that scene with all the princesses???? Cannot wait!!!) and also partially due to how it looks like a lot of the books I intend to read in the upcoming month will feature royalty in one way or another so I felt a bit inspired for today’s Top Five. I also could’ve grouped both my YA and NA princes together but I thought solely YA would be quite sufficient. And there’s a lot more to choose from in that pool.  This is gonna be a fun time.

Here is today’s Top Five Tuesday: YA Princes!

1. MAXON SCHREAVE (THE SELECTION)

I can guarantee no one is shocked I picked Maxon first. He’s a character I love so deeply that even the mere mention of him has me crying. He’s one of my favourite boys in general, not just princes, and he’s just so cute and soft. I love how determined he is to be a good prince and a good future king and just be what his people need him to be. He’s also like the most bashful person ever and it’s what I love in a good prince. I could go on and on about Maxon but I’m gonna stop before I get carried away. He’s the best.

2. KHALID IBN AL-RASHID (THE WRATH AND THE DAWN)

Ok, technically he’s the Caliph of Korasan, which is essentially the equivalent to being king so I probably shouldn’t include him under my prince list but if we’re being technical then all the princes on this list eventually go on to becoming king so THERE. I love Khalid, you love Khalid, everyone loves Khalid. I’ve said on more than one occasion that he’s the kind of character that put my faith back into YA lit purely because of how good he is. And I also like that you think you’re gonna perceive him in one way but he ends up surprising you and being a completely different person than you expected. He’s good for his people, amazing for Shazi, and he’s the kind of man that everyone deserves.

3. KAITO (THE LUNAR CHRONICLES)

I guarantee that at the moment you just read his name you all started swooning. That’s the Kai effect, to be honest. And it’s not just for people like us; literally everyone in the Lunar universe swoons over Kai and I do not blame them whatsoever. I can’t even think of the right words to describe Kai because I can’t stop swooning either. Geez, get a grip. He’s just super adorable and unbelievably smart and has a little bit of deviance in him and I love it. He can also be pretty sassy when he needs to be but he loves his family and his people so much that he’d marry a crazy Lunar queen to bring peace between them. Thankfully Cinder helped him get out of that and it’s great to see her constantly saving him and I don’t think he’s mad about it. Oh, and he eventually becomes Emperor so this is my loophole support.

4. CAL CALORE (RED QUEEN)

I’m not really feeling the Red Queen series as of late and I’ve been pushing back the final book constantly but if I did end up reading it, it’s only for Cal. I swear, everything I do in this series is for Cal because he’s the only thing I care about. He’s a bit different from my other princes because he doesn’t really want to be king and while he wants to see the end of the “blood war” (for lack of a better word) between Reds and Silvers, he just doesn’t know how to go about it. He wants to help, for sure, but is always held back. I also like how Cal has a fair bit of brood to him, but not too much to make him annoying because I don’t like my princes with too much brood, there’s still a nice mix of bashful and mischievousness to him. I hope he’s ok and eating well.

5. ELIAN (TO KILL A KINGDOM)

I probably shouldn’t add Elian to this list so fast after meeting him but I can’t help it; he became an instant favourite of mine. First there’s the fact that he’s kind of basically Prince Eric, aka the very first love of my life and favourite Disney prince, so that gives him automatic importance. But I feel like he’s a very solid mix of all the people I’ve listed thus far because he wants what’s best for his kingdom but also wants what’s best for him. He knows that he can’t be the king Midas needs nor does he want to be king, but he also does what he can to give them what they need. He’s also like a super hot pirate prince and I am honestly all about that. I’m also really into all the snark and sass this boy has because it’s almost better than my own and that’s saying something. He’s just so good and I want 50 of him please.

Well, those are my top YA princes! I would like to make an honourable mention to Nikolai Lantsov (The Grisha Trilogy), Carden (Folk in the Air), and Dorian Havilliard (Throne of Glass) because they are also some top notch princes but just not my favourites. Be sure to let me know in the comments which YA prince is your favourite and if I missed any!

Until next time,
